Ideas and Help

Memorizing 52 verses is not always an easy task. Here are a few ideas to help you hide God’s Word in your heart.

Reference:
Memorize the reference for each verse!!!! It is very simple to add the reference as we are memorizing a verse, yet a step that many of us neglect to take.

Time:
Set aside ten minutes each day to work on your memory verses. During these ten minutes, lay aside all distractions such as music, texting, phones, and people and really focus on the words you are trying to memorize.

Index Cards:
Write your verse on several index cards and keep them in places you frequent (i.e. the shower, your bed, your Bible, the table, your laptop). Review the verse each time you see the card.

Sections:
Split the verse into sections and memorize each section individually then put them together. For example:
1 Corinthians 10:13
{1} There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
{2} but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
{3} but will with the temptation also make a way to escape,
{4} that ye may be able to bear it.

Rhythm:
Memorize the verse in poetry form with a rhythm.

Songs:
Make a simple melody for the passage you are memorizing or use a traditional melody.

Repetition:
Read the verse aloud 10 times. Without looking, try to repeat it. If necessary, repeat the process.

Listening
Find or make a recording of your verse and listen to it frequently throughout the week.

First Letters:
Write the first letter of each word on an index card. Using only these letters, try to say the verse. To test yourself, write first letters as you recite the verse from memory, then compare it to Scripture.
Example: John 3:16
J 3:16 F G S L T W T H G H O B S T W B I H S N P B H E L
